Besides his role at Brainstorm Ventures, Ariel is also a Kauffman Fellow and Mentor. He holds the position of Vice President at Pacific Community Management, a pioneering growth equity impact investment firm, where he actively serves on the boards of several portfolio companies.

“**[Ariel J.]:** I was born and raised by my single mother and attended public school in Spanish Harlem before moving to Los Angeles as a teenager. I studied engineering at UC Berkeley, worked in Silicon Valley for three years at Intel, and then went to business school at Wharton after brief stints at the United Nations Development program in Venezuela and then strategy consulting at Baines Bridge group.
I joined Pacific Community Ventures, one of the pioneering impact investment firms. It was there that I met Eduardo Rayo, the founder of Brainstorm Ventures. Him and I have been investing together for a dozen years now and running Brainstorm together for nearly a decade. Brainstorm Ventures is an early-stage generalist Venture Capital firm that invests in some of the most promising North American startups. OpenTable, Zappos, and KEO Networks in Mexico City are amongst the unicorns that we’ve backed at the seed stage. More recently, my first investment out of our second fund was Turing, a company that’s now worth four billion dollars, four years later.
We don’t have a diversity mandate yet. However, a majority of our U.S-based portfolio companies have black, Latinx, and/or female founders. We are currently raising and investing out of our third fund at Brainstorm Ventures. In addition to running Brainstorm, I’m on the board of Defy Ventures, a non-profit that provides entrepreneurial training to people in prisons from New York to California, in order to reduce recidivism and create wealth for our communities. I am also a Kauffman Fellow and mentor to two more recent fellows.”
