“Despite Garth Brooks’ involvement, Bud Light sales continue to plummet”

Bud Light Loses Market Share Amid Boycott

Bud Light, the beer brand endorsing inclusiveness, has lost the top spot in the US beer market. A boycott caused by the brand’s payment to a transgender influencer for social media promotion led to a significant dip in sales. Garth Brooks, the country music icon and celebrity bar owner, still openly endorses the brand, but it is no longer America’s favorite beer.

Mexico’s Modelo Especial claimed the top spot in the US retail beer market, capturing 8.4% of sales during the four weeks ending on June 3, according to an analysis of Nielsen data by Bump Williams. Bud Light trails behind with a 7.3% share. This comes as no surprise given recent market trends.

Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” establishment, located in Nashville’s Lower Broadway, will serve every brand of beer. However, the singer made a statement on Facebook in support of inclusiveness and diversity. Despite the backlash from conservative fans, the country music icon leaned into his remarks.

Poll Shows Transgender Support Is Waning

Bud Light’s promotion with a transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney, made it a focus in the hyper-politicized transgender debate in the US. Even though voters consider LGBTQ+ rights to be of less priority when compared to immigration or women’s reproductive rights, it has become a wedge issue splitting society.

The beginning of Pride Month on June 1 brought the issue further to the fore. A Gallup poll published recently indicates that tolerance for transgender people has declined in the past two years. The percentage of Americans who believed it was morally acceptable to change one’s gender was 46% two years ago. It has now decreased to 43%, indicating a loss in support among independent voters.
