## **Peer-to-Peer Program Expansion at the Alive Center in Glen Ellyn**

Welcome to CBS 2 News Chicago! In this video, our reporter Sara Machi takes us on a journey to explore the exciting expansion happening at the “Alive Center.” This peer-to-peer program has cracked the code on keeping students safe, busy, and learning during the summer months when they’re out of school.

At this Naperville Teen Center, participants are not only learning about different types of temporary shelters but also building their own. The Alive Center focuses on developing specific skill sets, including survival skills, by engaging students in cool science projects and hands-on learning.

The unique aspect of this program is that the teenage teachers at the Alive Center are solely responsible for creating and leading the curriculum for other kids. This impactful approach extends to students of all backgrounds – privileged kids, at-risk kids, high schoolers, and junior high kids.

Expanding their reach further, the Alive Center in Glen Ellyn is partnering with the YMCA for a two-year collaboration. As part of a $12 million renovation, a new teen center will be built, strengthening the peer-to-peer program and allowing them to share their successes with other Ys.

Teens at the Naperville location are already planning the Glen Ellyn expansion, eager to grow the program and enhance their own leadership skills. The YMCA is hosting its first event with the Alive Center, streaming it live on their Facebook page for those who can’t attend in person.
