In this video, we delve into the challenges and budget constraints faced by the United States in the development of the F-35 fighter platform. The development of a sixth-generation fighter has proved to be a difficult task due to time and financial limitations.
According to the official [U.S. Navy budget website](https://www.navy.mil), the Five-Year RND budget allocated for the F-35 is a staggering $9.1 billion. However, in the same period, the United States Navy only had $11.849 billion to develop a sixth-generation fighter. This stark contrast highlights the imbalance between allocating funds for research and development versus purchasing already available fifth-generation aircraft.
Notably, the United States spent approximately $32.4 billion (accounting for inflation) in developing the F-22, a predecessor of the F-35, in a span of about 14 years from August 1991 to December 2005. This figure, adjusted for today’s inflation rates, would amount to approximately $45 billion.
As we explore this topic further, we aim to shed light on the time-consuming nature of fighter development. Join us in uncovering the intricacies of the F-35 project and the challenges faced by the United States Navy.
