Pearl Street’s Forgotten Structures: Telephone Operators, Carpets, a Pursuit by Law Enforcement, and the Young Men’s Christian Association in Hartford, CT

In this engaging video, I delve into the rich history of the lost buildings on the south side of Pearl Street, west of Trumbull Street, in Hartford, Connecticut. The buildings discussed include the former jail turned printing firm, a Turkish Bath House, the Telephone Building, Donchian’s Oriental Rugs, the A.M.E. Zion Church, the fire H.Q., and the Y.M.C.A. Throughout the video, I share intriguing stories of a collapsed wall, a police chase, and the recreation room used by the “Hello Girls” in between shifts at the switchboard.

One of the fascinating images featured in the video is of the A.M.E. Zion Church, sourced from the Connecticut State Library, PG 420, Taylor Collection of Early Hartford Photographs.
