# National Medical Commission (NMC) Webinar: Addressing Concerns and Clarifying Doubts about the National Exit Test (NExT)
In this informative webinar conducted by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the concerns and uncertainties of medical students regarding the upcoming National Exit Test (NExT) were successfully addressed. The NMC Chairperson, Dr. Sharma, emphasized the primary objective of the webinar, which is to alleviate anxiety among final-year MBBS students preparing for the exam.
During the webinar, Dr. Sharma highlighted the drawbacks of the traditional exam format, such as selective reading and the likelihood of repeated questions. He also emphasized the importance of a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, as doctors do not have the luxury of choosing their patients.
The NExT, a comprehensive computer-based examination, aims to ensure objectivity, nationwide delivery, and secure conduction. It will consist of high-quality multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that cover higher domains of knowledge aligned with the expected competencies of Indian medical graduates. The exam will consist of six subject papers, with each paper having a specific weightage in terms of the number of items and time allocation.
Additionally, the NExT Step 2 will be a practical and clinical examination conducted after the completion of the internship. This step will assess competencies in clinical diagnosis, patient examination, clinical decision making, practical skills, and communication skills necessary for the practice of modern medicine in India.
The National Medical Commission, along with authorized universities and institutions, will determine the time schedule and procedures for NExT Step 2. It is important to note that a mock or practice test for NExT will be held on 28th July 2023.
